On Capitol Hill
The Week of June 30
Congress takes the week off for July 4th. Lawmaking gets started up again next week.
Down the Pike in '08
The House okayed a higher ed bill, HR 4137, in February that would beef up student aid; no word on when the Senate may pick it up. Meanwhile, responding to a possible credit crunch in student loans, both chambers okayed a bill that'd open up federally backed tuition loans (AP). Congress was also slated to rework No Child Left Behind law in '08, but it looks like it'll be punted to '09.
